Motherhood & clay
Motherhood made me
an artist.
I found sculpture when I was six months pregnant with Ava, living in a country that was not my own. I was carrying fears and anxieties I did not yet know how to name, and I felt deeply alone without a support system of my own.
Then I stepped into a clay studio. Sculpting gave my hands somewhere to place everything my voice could not yet hold. Clay became a way to alchemize grief, pain, confusion, loneliness and trauma into something I could hold, shape and transform.
What began as a therapeutic practice became the foundation of my life as an artist. When Ava arrived, she became the one thing in my life that felt unquestionably real. In many ways, we grew up together. As I guide her through her own becoming, I can see that she has been guiding me through mine all along.
